Dai Yang Tian
It's hard not to be enamoured with this 25-year-old ex-model from Shanghai. Deep eyes, tall, lightly-tanned skin, eloquent - well never mind that he only speaks Mandarin and of course, that very appealing cupid's bow of a mouth. Dai Yang Tian shot to overnight fame playing the role of a Japanese photographer in 2008 Channel 8's blockbuster series, 'The Little Nyonya' and went on to win 'Best Newcomer Award 2009'. Currently seen on another one of Channel 8's blockbuster drama, 'Together' and playing one of the lead roles 'Lin Xiao Bei', he has women of all ages swooning over him like white on rice. Now you don't need to be a soothsayer to predict his future is one helluva shining star.

Translation of Lian He Wan Bao's article - "Laziness"
Original Text : Zhong Yan Ling
Translated : Anollec (to my best ability)
After sorting out FM 1003 listeners' votes on local artistes' popularity, the editor asked me if these artistes have good acting skills?
I replied, 'the survivorship in the entertainment industry is not dependent on acting skill but on popularity. As long as one has determination/perseverance, one is popular, one has market-value, one will be given opportunity. Only with this, one can then gradually improve on one's acting skill in future. '
An artiste's enemy is time.
Tony Leung (Chiu Wai), Andy Lau, Maggie Cheung are top stars who can now be completely indifferent to how the media write about them. They have succeeded in going through the waves of gossips and have arrived at the shores.
Thousands of artistes are given a decade or two to allow others to write about them. There are so many artistes, why would they choose you? Fans are greedy and fickle-minded, newspapers have limited space for publishing. New stars who are like protected flowers who cannot even weather a small storm or who cannot afford to tarnish their image will get eliminated unless they are well-liked or have people there to always protect them (in other words, have backing). However, I'm not that motherly, I can't tolerate having to take care of an immatured big child and having to guide him across the road.
But now, I want to help those who are willing to help themselves.
All the labelling such as ah ge, ah jie, princess, master are just fake names for media use. Artistes & media must not take all these too seriously. Dai Yang Tian (DYT) asked me about the relationship between media & artistes. I told him to take what the media writes lightly. Different media has different working procedures. What he can do is not to be affected by this external element/force. Allow the wind to pass without leaving a mark/scar. With his (DYT's) self-confidence and frankness, he should be able to handle it. I see there is a real ah ge in the making.
You only need to tell me what you can say, what I can conveniently write. I'll not include those points which you do not want them to be published. We (DYT & reporter) chatted for over an hour and there were only 15-min worth of the interview that can be published. With that, we have enough materials for 3-day news coverage. We play our roles well, thus enabling each other to complete our tasks well.
I asked if he (DYT) is afraid of reporters for asking tough questions. He laughed, 'Nothing to be afraid of, we just respect each other's work and that's all'. (Reporter continued to write...) If there is, there is . If there isn't , there isn't . Simple & straight-forward. There is no distortion of facts, no concealed plot, not related to moral, not related to capability, not related to talent. Anxiously trying to push all negative news to reporters, the more one wants to cover, the more will be revealed/disclosed. Or could this anxiety be due to one's guilt?
Why some artistes are popular, I'm lazy to reiterate.

Tinker, Tailor ... Together
Source : Mediacorp TV
Measure of a man: Mr. Dai sure is shy. Asked if he's excited about practising his newly-acquired measuring skills on chicks and the fella replied, "No! If I tried measuring a girl, my hands were keep on shaking!" We don't think anyone would mind.
Sew much to learn: No, Yangtian's not falling asleep. The guy's just overloaded from the info. "I was talking to Wenhai (who plays his tailor father in the show), and the two of us couldn't catch everything."
Vital statistics: We know what you're thinking — which lady would kill to be in that position next to YangtianDai Yangtian has no affinity when it comes to needle and thread, but the leading man from this year-end’s Ch 8 blockbuster drama Together likes cutting up stuff anyway.

Together is this year’s The Little Nyonya. We’re not saying so simply because that’s what the industry spiel has been touting about the upcoming blockbuster drama, scheduled to hit TV screens in late November. ‘Cos like its ratings-powerhouse predecessor, Together is, one, a period piece — spanning nearly three decades starting after Singapore gained independence. And two, Dai Yangtian and Jeanette Aw are back at it again as lovers, after their lovey-dovey but short-lived pairing in Nyonya became a favourite with the fans.
But there’s at least one marked difference that Yangtian is gleefully relishing. “I live longer,” he says as his lips part into a toothy smile. “I’m still alive beyond the eighth episode, and that makes me very happy.” Of course, such a revelation is hardly breaking news, and the actor has already tackled his first lead role playing ping pong in Table of Glory. So what’s left to see is whether he as the primary protagonist and the megadrama itself will match the hype generated. Look no further than the less-than-favourable reactions to the heavily promoted Zoe vs. Fann vehicle The Ultimatum that ended its run recently.
Ask him about pressure and he replies how “it’s the pressure I give to myself that’s bigger than from the outside.” You almost expect this sort of response from a guy who’s been upfront about his showbiz career goal, not counting his thank-you speech after winning Best Newcomer at the Star Awards where he pledged to continuously improve his game with viewers as his witnesses. So even though he confesses to have “not much of an interest in needlework”, he’s already begun training to prepare for his role in Together as the son of a tailor.
And that’s where we met him, in a tiny tailor shop-within-a-shop in Hougang, for lesson number one — learning to take a person’s measurements and sketching. Yes, there’s more to tailoring than just stitching pieces of cloth together. “It’s not an easy profession. By the time [the teacher] was demonstrating how to sketch on the cloth, I was lost.”
While he hasn’t a knack for needle and thread, Yangtian apparently “likes to cut up clothes, I don’t know why! Like I’d cut off the extra length from clothes that are very long, then just use thread and fix them.” He points to the frayed collar of his round-neck tee, “I cut off the original collar because I don’t like tight, restrictive ones; makes you feels like it’s hard to breathe.” If he didn’t mention it so lackadaisically, we might have been alarmed by his scissors-happy pastime. “You could say it’s kinda my style,” he adds. “And no, I’m not bothered if people think I’m dressed inappropriately, even if my clothes happen to have some frays or rough stitching.”

steve (22:04:00) : actually zhang zhen huan quite handsome. paul, what you think? he can overtake dai yang tian? tonight ultimatum, fann and zoe acting 1st class. felicia quite far cry leh. think her chance not high for best actress lor? overact, the feel quite funny to watch her. goose pimples that type. still long way to reach fann and zoe standard. but zhen huan quite charming, that why maybe can fight dai yang tian. next hot hunK?
(Paul: I think ZZH has potential but to beat DYT will be tough as DYT’s look is very versatile tnat enable him to cut across all races and age groups. ZZH will appeal to a certain sector and he needs roles specially tailored for him like TU and Together. DYT can play different role - good or baddie and look convincingly in any…)
